It’s taken a while for me to get back to the few photos I took in Switzerland this summer

It was a casual hiking, biking chilling sort of holiday and it was clear from the first day that we’d landed in the ‘Killarney of Switzerland’ in peak season: lots of tourists in a hurry to bag the main sights. So of course we started to look for the paths less traveled.
In fairness, despite the chaos, I got what I wanted the first day: a long, easy walk along an Alpine valley surrounded by snow-capped mountains; a trip on a cable car; a small village of typical wooden houses.

Camera-wise I decided to travel light. Despite – or maybe in-spite – of my significant arsenal of high-grade glass, I traveled with just two prime lenses (and only really used one): I picked up the Viltrox 20mm f2.8 which I used pretty much the whole trip – but I also packed the Nikon Z 40mm f2 just in case I needed something more ‘normal’. And just the trust OG Nikon Z6 in the bag. And we all got on fine.
The 20mm did well – small an unobtrusive, sharp enough, wide enough. And you can always crop it a bit if it’s too wide.
And we found plenty of quieter walks high in the mountains. We’ll maybe come back off season to hit the main spots!

And finally these images gave me a chance to really try out the latest masking tools in Lightroom. But then the sign of a good mask is that you don’t notice it so I probably shouldn’t mention it…
