Don’t take pictures, take part

(OK, do take some pictures, but take part too!)

Small Fella had his Christmas Concert yesterday

What can I say?  They were all great.

Unfortunately Number One Daughter wasn’t able to make it due to a school trip so she asked me to video the whole thing.  Obviously, no question.

In doing so it brought back a realisation I made when photographing University Sport back in the 1990s: if you’re photographing something then you are observing; you are not experiencing; you are not taking part.

So I saw the whole performance on the LCD but I wasn’t really ‘there’.  And although I really enjoyed the OLOL School Pageant last week it’s a different experience trying to capture it in images rather than just sitting back and enjoying it.

Now I still love taking pictures so I don’t mind most of the time.  But there are times in the family calendar when I deliberately leave the camera behind – or at least take the compact and put it in my pocket after getting a few snaps.  I’ve learned to forget the capture and enjoy the experience.  My memory still serves me pretty well.

Of course it’s often easier if someone else is doing it for you (you knew there was a plug in here somewhere didn’t you?)

So this Christmas, apart from wishing everyone a very Merry One, I’d like to remind you not to make this important time in your family’s year a full multi-media experience and make it a fully interactive one!

Three Wise Children at the Peace Park: slow sync on the LX-5

There’s still a few days left to go see the lights and decorations in the Peace Park (aka Bishop Lucey Park).  We went on the first weekend it was open ang there was no queuing.

The kids had a great time running around looking at everything and even throwing an ice cube in the fountain to make a wish.

The Small Fella even said yesterday that he forgot to put ‘something’ on his Santa list but he thinks he’s OK because he wished for it in the fountain.  Good luck to Santa with that one!!

The park has a new designer this year and it’s looking fresher.  But it struck me that it’s less interactive – certainly compared to the first ‘Franc year’.  It really is a photo event: there are lots of festive things to get your picture taken with (see above!).

So bring your cameras and it’s time to try out the slow-sync flash.  It may be disguised as ‘night mode’ or something like that.  But basically it should slow the shutter down to bring up the ambient lights then blast the foreground with a flash to pick kids out.  It takes a bit of playing with and a steady hand but the pic of the kids above was taken on my compact Pansonic Lumix LX-5.  You don’t need anything too ‘flashy’.

Busy

It’s been a mad busy week this week and I’ve been in and out of the office quite a lot.  My apologies if I’ve missed anyone calling.

I’m going to be out all day tomorrow, Friday 9th December at a wedding booking so the Gallery will be closed all day.

If you need to contact me urgently please call the mobile and leave voicemail – I’ll get back to you as soon as I’m avaiable.  Or send a text: 087 683 8511

Thanks

Rob

€30 Christmas Gift Voucher Launched

We are pleased to announce a very special €30 Gift Voucher Offer

This time last year we celebrated the opening of the Gallery with a voucher offer and it was a huge success so we’ve decided to launch a new Voucher Offer in time for Christmas this year.

The €30 covers a family session and a 5×7 print.

We found last year that many people gave these vouchers as Christmas Gifts for relatives or as Chris Cringle gifts. A family session is the perfect Christmas present: it allows someone you know to create a milestone in their family’s lives that they’ll cherish for years to come.

The voucher includes a full family session and it can be taken at a location of your choice in the Cork City area.

The only restriction on this offer is that the vouchers need to be used before 31st March 2012. If that doesn’t work for you, there is no expiry on our normal session Gift Vouchers which start at €80.

Vouchers are available from the Gallery on Ardfallen Estate or give us a call and we can arrange to get one sent out to you – 021 429 3714

Commercial Photography Portfolio

I have finally got around to updating the Gallery of my Commercial Photograph with more recent work.

I’ve also taken the opportunity to re-format the Gallery using a Storyboard format which we put together for the Bank displays earlier this year.  I think it gives a better feel for the range of images delivered during the Commercial Assignments and shows how they were eventually used by Web Designers and Graphic Artists.

There are more jobs that deserve this treatment so I plan to set some more time aside to put some more of these together.

The new gallery is now up at http://www.roblambphoto.com/CommercialSampleBoards/content/CCoI_large.html

And linked from the Galleries page on the main site.

Take a look and let me know what you think…

Big Thank Yous

A Big Thank You to everyone who called in before the mid-term for the Halloween Dress Up.

We had a steady stream of kids coming in for their pic and we raised over €450 for Crumlin and the Ronald McDonald House.

There are a few prints still here for collection so don’t forget to come and get yours if you took part.

Halloween Den Day 1

We had to start somewhere I guess and we have a couple of helpers today to get things underway.

It’s more Autumnal than scarey Halloween to be honest but those pumpkins will get faces tomorrow and the kids are hard at work this afternoon making paper bats.

All we need now is a big hairy spider…

Halloween Dress Up for Crumlin

Family Photographer CorkDress up, Call in, get a Free Photo

This Thursday and Friday we’ll be hosting a special event in aid of Crumlin Children’s Hospial and the Ronal McDonald House.

We’ll be busy in the next couple of days setting up a ‘Halloween Den’ in the Gallery and we’ll be inviting local kids to come in between 11am and 3pm on Thursday and Friday to come in and get their picture taken.

Everyone will get a free print and there’ll be the chance to make a donation to these special children’s charities.

We’d love to get as many kids into the Gallery to please help spread the word.

We’ve already made the Cork Independent and we’re hoping the Echo will feature the event this evening.

The Small Fella is of course loving seeing himself all over Douglas!

Stay tuned for more updates including some early shots of the Den as we start getting it together.

Back in the Bank

We’re just back from hanging another stand in the bank: this time in the Douglas Branch of AIB on the Douglas Road.  On the table are more of these special discount vouchers to be used with new sessions taken between now and Christmas.

So if you’re passing in the next two weeks call and and take a look…

Pepperstack Bistro, Aghada

Martin doing his stuff at the Pepperstack Bistro

I’m pleased to annouce the launch of Pepperstack Bistro’s new-look web-site:

http://www.pepperstackbistro.com/

I know Imelda has put a lot of work into the site since we did the photoshoot earlier in the Summer.

The food looks good but I have to say that it tastes even better and you can be assured of warm, friendly service.

Best of Luck with it guys and we’ll be back down there as soon as we can!

Credit also to Green Amber Web Solutions for putting the site together
